The 94th Academy Awards ceremony was certainly a smash hit this year. Will Smith takes no prisoners in the fashion arena like the other Oscar nominees who showed up in epic style at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood.

Classic white shirts, biophilic green gowns and suits were the most popular looks at this year’s star-studded event, taking Hollywood fashion finesse up a notch from pure finery to attire with attitude. Kristen Stewart wore a sheer white shirt from Chanel with fitted hot pants. Stewart’s fiancée, the actor and screenwriter Dylan Meyer, also wore a white shirt that complemented Stewart’s outfit. Hot pants are not precisely red-carpet-appropriate, especially at a prestigious event like the Oscars (but says who? You may ask). Nonetheless, Kristen Stewart pulled it off by combining all the classics—a black jacket, hot pants and a white shirt—in a playful yet harmonious manner.

The Classic White Tee

You can most definitely style a simple white shirt in many ways; hence, it has become an iconic fashion piece on and off the red carpet. Zendaya, star of Dune, stole the red carpet in an ivory silk shirt above a sequined silver maxi skirt, custom-made by Valentino Haute Couture. What is more, Uma Thurman looked elegant in a Bottega Veneta white silk shirt and column skirt. At the same time, Timothée Chalamet opted for no shirt—perhaps he got a little hot under the collar amid all the action. Neither did the red carpet fall short of colourful outfits, albeit hot pink made less of an appearance this year. On the other hand, wintergreen was a red carpet hit. As a colour, it symbolises new beginnings, resurrection, and peace, highlighting the world’s progressive journey through COVID.

Will Smith, the best actor winner for King Richard, wore a black Dolce & Gabbana tux and matching vest, with jewels on his tie courtesy of Cartier. Jada Pinkett Smith looked stunning in an emerald-green Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown and accessorised it with Jimmy Choo heels and diamond earrings from G jewels. They are such a power couple, indeed.

Green with Envy

Tiffany Haddish wore a beautiful emerald green custom-made Dolce & Gabbana gown and Pomellato jewels. It did not stop here while other celebrities such as Carlos Lopez Estrada and Kelly Marie Tran wore green Thai Nguyen Atelier with Chopard jewellery.

The Oscars Grand Finale

I feel a little green with envy (pun intended!) that I had not travelled to LA this year, but it was refreshing to see new fashion ‘rules’ dominating the Oscar red carpet. The stars are raising the bar to a new level for daring red-carpet styles (like hot pants), unconventional colour codes, and a simple white T-shirt you can wear anywhere and with everything.
